Members of Burgh Bees will be on hand to discuss honeybees and beekeeping. Garden in the Park Field Day 2015 Join the Allegheny County Master Gardeners as they host their annual Garden in the Park Field Day. The day features booths about pollinators (and their affect on ice cream), garlic, tomato, and basil tasting, tours of the annual beds. Members from Gardenline will be on site to answer gardening questions.

Date: Tuesday May 24th Time: 7pm - 9pm Location: Penn State Center Pittsburgh 1435 Bedford Ave, Suite (Level) A Pittsburgh PA 15219 Enjoy a great pot luck supper, socialize with fellow beekeepers, and then participate in an educational discussion topic. The mix of new and and experienced beekeepers offers many different perspectives. Bring a hot dish, salad, or dessert to share. Plates, utensils, and soft drinks are provided. No alcoholic beverages are allowed at this location. There is a large free parking lot at this facility with plenty of parking right outside the front door. Take the elevator or stairs to level A. Quarterly Membership Update: We will review what projects and issues are being worked by the Board of Directors. Discussion Topics: Bring in a sample from a plant you see blooming and have it identified. Discussion of importance of mite monitoring and treatment options.

Come sample the fruits of their labor and learn more about what we can do to support pollinators.
Due to overwhelming demand, we are full for this month's open apiary! We will start up again next spring. Look for dates to be announced in May 2016. Want to learn more about bees and beekeeping? Want to see inside a beehive? Come out to our monthly Open Apiary on Sunday Sept 27. Protective head equipment will be provided. Please wear or bring long sleeved shirts, preferably with a collar, and long pants (no Capris or shorts please!). Also closed-toed shoes such as tennis shoes are recommended! A $10 suggested donation per person to Burgh Bees is appreciated. Registration is limited to 15 attendees, so register early! Venture Outdoors has organized a visit to the Burgh Bees Homewood Apiary. Date: Saturday May 23 Time: 9am - 1pm Please visit Venture Outdoors to register. Burgh Bees Walk Get a close-up look at nature's most fascinating social creatures on this 3-mile walk and workshop. We’ll start by connecting the green spaces within a few East End neighborhoods before arriving at ‘Burgh Bees Apiary. There, a representative will lead a 1.5 hour workshop about beekeeping. We’ll take people into the apiary to see the inside of a beehive (weather permitting). Minimum age is 16. This outing is sponsored by ‘Burgh Bees.
