Are you curious about volunteering for Burgh Bees? Please join us on Wednesday, Sept 17 at 7m for our Volunteer Information Session.  Meet board members and volunteers, and enjoy free pizza and snacks. Learn about our volunteer opportunities and how you can help Burgh Bees! Date: Wednesday Sept 17 Time: 7pm Location: Penn State Extension Office - 400 North Lexington Street Pittsburgh, PA 15208 Enter the building through the Security entrance at the far right side of the building (when facing the building).  Sign in at the security desk, and enter PSU or Penn State as the location you are visiting.  Go up the ramp and follow the hall way until it opens up in a large common space.  The elevator will be on your right. Take the elevator to the 3rd floor.

Burgh Bees Monthly Meet-Up – Special Event

When: Tuesday, July 29, starting 7pm Where: The home of Jana and Bruce Thompson 1240 Resaca Place,Pittsburgh, PA 15212 in the Mexican War Streets This month we will have a special location for our July Meet-up! Jana and Bruce Thompson have graciously offered their home to have our July meet-up.  Come out to see Jana's bees and urban backyard garden. Get a chance to hang out with fellow beekeepers and those curious about beekeeping.  It's always a good time! Please BYOB and snacks to share.

Burgh Bees Monthly Meet-Up – Pot Luck

Date: Wednesday February 24 Time: 7pm - 9pm Location: PENN STATE CENTER, 1435 Bedford Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 For new and veteran beekeepers.  Meet and talk bees with local beekeepers. Enjoy a great pot luck supper, socialize with fellow beekeepers, and then participate in an educational discussion topic. The mix of new and and experienced beekeepers offers many different perspectives. Bring a hot dish, salad, or dessert to share. Plates, utensils, and soft drinks are provided. No alcoholic beverages are allowed at this location. Discussion Topic: Preparing for the Spring. There is a large free parking lot at this facility with plenty of parking right outside the front door.  Take the elevator or stairs to level A.

Burgh Bees Monthly Meetup – New Location and Format!

We have a new location and format for the May Meet Up. This month will be a pot luck dinner and a topic presentation. In an effort to provide more information to our beekeepers in the area, we are switching things up!  This month's meet-up will be held in the Mt. Washington section of Pittsburgh at Chatham Hall. 655 Pennridge Road. Pgh., Pa. 15211. There is plenty of parking for everyone! Meet-up will begin at 6:30pm with a brief meeting to give a brief update on the club's business. At 6:45pm there will be a short presentation on a topic focused on beginning beekeeping basics. Dinner will follow at 7:15pm. From 7:45-830pm a more advanced topic will be presented followed by Q&A and more socializing! We ask that you please bring a side dish or dessert to share. We will have coffee, water and pop, and it is BYOB for those wanting to indulge in an adult beverage or two! Discussion topic for May is: Swarming Swarm Biology Presentation (6:45 - 7:15pm) Swarm Management Presentation w/ Q&A (7:45 - 8:30pm) Directions: From the liberty bridge: Take PJ McArdle roadway to Grandview Ave. At the traffic light go straight across Grandview. This will put you on to Merrimac street. Follow Merrimac to Virginia Ave and turn right. Take the 2nd left onto Bigham street. Take the 2nd left onto Pennridge Road. Chatham Hall will be on the left. From Rt 51: Take Woodruff Street. Make a slight left onto Merrimac street. Take the 1st left onto Omaha street. Turn left onto Bigham. Take the 1st left onto Pennridge Road. See you at 6:30pm!

BURGH BEES MONTHLY MEET-UP & BOOK SIGNING

Come celebrate the first meetup of the year and the release of Stephen Repasky’s book, Swarm Essentials. Meet local beekeepers, and whether you're bee curious, a new beekeeper, or a seasoned beekeeper, you will surely find something to talk about! Share some stories of the past year and a few drinks with us as we talk all things bees!  Stephen Repasky will be on hand as well with his new book for you to purchase and get your own copy signed. New beekeeper will benefit in hearing from some of our experience beekeepers. Bring a hot dish, salad, or dessert to share. Plates, utensils, and soft drinks will be provided. Sorry, NO alcoholic beverages are allowed at this location. Take the elevator or stairs to level A. There is a large free parking lot at this facility with plenty of parking right outside the front door. Discussion Topic: Impacts of warm fall weather on winter feeding, winter/early spring feeding and impacts on brood production and spring swarming.

Annual Membership Banquet and Elections

When: Friday, November 13, 2015 Time: 6:00pm - 10pm Where: The Bigelow Center - 4338 Bigelow Boulevard, Pittsburgh (Oakland) 15213 Parking is available at the Soldiers and Sailors parking garage at 4390 Bigelow Boulevard for a $5.00 flat fee after 4:00 PM. This will be a limited ticket event! The Annual Burgh Bees Membership Banquet will be held on November 13 at the beautiful Bigelow Center in Oakland. We are very excited to try out this new venue for our banquet this year! Registration Deadline is November 01! Please RSVP HERE We are asking for a $10 per person contribution to help off set the cost for this year's event. The banquet is open to all dues paying members of Burgh Bees. Memberships run from October 1st through the following September 30 (it does not start and end based on when you became a member). You can renew your membership at the door or online HERE. Schedule: 6:30pm - Happy Hour* and hors d'oeuvres* 7:00pm - Meeting and Elections of Board Members 7:15pm - Dinner*, Raffles, and Social Dinner will be catered by Cooked Goose Catering. Feel free to BYOB! As usual, we are looking for raffle basket items. It does not need to be bee related!
