Wax Processing Workshop

This workshop will demonstrate the equipment and techniques used to process wax capping into a clean and usable product. The workshop will also include making beeswax chap stick to demonstrate how to utilize the cleaned wax. Register by emailing Bob@BurghBees.com. Fall 2016 Intro to Beekeeping Class

This One Day Classroom-based course offers beginning beekeepers an introduction to honey bee biology and basic approaches to beekeeping. The course will include: an overview of honey bee castes and races, a discussion of bee biology in order to understand the challenges facing honey bees, and an overview of the basic equipment necessary for successful beekeeping. The goal is for students to learn how to keep bees for the first year. The class will be held on: FALL November 19th from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

BK101 Beekeeping in the Classroom (Condensed) Spring

This one day classroom-based course offers beginning beekeepers an introduction to honey bee biology and basic approaches to beekeeping. The course will include: an overview of honey bee castes and races, a discussion of bee biology in order to understand the challenges facing honey bees, and an overview of the basic equipment necessary for successful beekeeping. The goal is for students to learn how to keep bees for the first year. Date: Saturday, March 12, 2016 Time: 8:00am - 3:00pm Location: Energy Innovation Center, 1435 Bedford Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 *There will be a short break for lunch. Please bring lunch with you. Registration Here - BK101 Condensed Registration Spring Notes: Free parking is available in the facility parking lot. Food and beverages are not allowed in the classrooms. Beverages and snacks will be provided before class and at breaks in the kitchen area. A lunch break is planned, so you may either bring a lunch or go out to lunch. UPDATE: Pittsburgh's Saint Patrick's Day Parade is also March 12th.  The parade route will close some downtown streets to include Grant and Liberty.  Prior year street closures started at 7:30 AM.  We recommend you leave extra travel time and if possible plan a route that does not come through the parade area.  They will likely publish more details on the parade as the date gets closer.
